SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT! We are extremely excited to announce our inspiring speaker for #YLE2017: the incredibly positive and accomplished Talli Osborne! Talli exemplifies what it means to be engaged in the community and be a youth leader. Although she was born missing her arms and bones in her legs, Talli was raised with the belief that she could do anything she set her mind to, and lives each day with that attitude. She began volunteering from a young age and has continued to do so ever since. Talli loves changing perceptions and attitudes by spreading inspiration, love, and punk rock around the world. Interested in joining us this year? Send us an email at [email protected] to register. This concludes our fourth annual Youth Leadership Expo! Thank you to all the students and teachers who attended this year but most importantly to our volunteers and partners. This event would not be possible without all of your hard work! Thank you!
We strive to provide a unique and memorable event every year. For that reason, we would love to hear your feedback to help us improve and continue to deliver excellence in leadership development opportunities for Toronto youth.
The first step to making a positive change in your school, community, city, or the world is to make a plan. Big changes don't happen overnight - it takes reflection, dreaming and time breaking big tasks into smaller ones to reach your ultimate goal.
As part of the Youth Leadership Expo 2016, we've created a Social Action Plan template that you can download from the link above. It provides a framework to evaluate what your priorities are, what you love to do, what you're great at. Plus it helps you make a plan - what can you do today? This month? This year? Identify possible road blocks and make a plan to overcome them. We often think of leaders as CEOs, presidents and teachers, but we can all make a positive impact in the lives of others. They are a youth led charity that teaches positive forms of artistic self-expression based in hip hop culture and provides leadership training for teens to cope with stress and life challenges in a productive way.
UNITY lives their mission. Their members and leaders shared stories of overcoming hardship, discovering creative outlets and finding community. They’re raw, honest and most importantly fun. Through stories of perseverance they mixed in beat boxing, break-dancing and poetry performances. UNITY’s vision is to “empower youth to use artistic self-expression to make positive life choices leading to more productive citizens, safer schools and healthier communities.” To learn more or to get involved, check out their website at http://unitycharity.com/ New year’s resolutions are easy to make but hard to keep.
